School Library Journal
Gr 6-8-Two introductory volumes in a series that is distinguished by easy-to-read texts and full-color photographs laid out in an appealing format. Bold headings divide each chapter into easy-to-browse sections. Mental Illness starts out with definitions and examples and continues with causes, treatments, and a short section on keeping mentally fit. It also includes information about depression and eating disorders. Know about Mental Illness (Walker, 1996) by Margaret O. Hyde gives more in-depth coverage to this topic. Unlike most other books on the subject, Homelessness presents a worldwide view of the problem and its causes, including eviction, natural disasters, and war. The final chapter includes a look at the progress that has been made toward ending homelessness. Readers browsing through this volume would glean a certain amount of information just from reading the captions and looking at the photographs.-Marilyn Long Graham, Lee County Library System, Estero, FL Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
