Children's Literature

This is the man behind the famous "Lewis and Clark" expedition. This book describes his character, life, and especially the exploration that he made with William Clark to the Western part of the United States. Meriwether Lewis grew up in Virginia (near the home of President Jefferson) during the Revolutionary War. He was a man who enjoyed adventure and exploration. This book in the "American Lives" series teaches young students about the life of this explorer through easy-to-read text and pictures and graphics. The layout in the book is visually appealing, and will draw the student to learn interesting facts that are not mentioned in the body of the text (such as the name of the dog that Mr. Lewis brought on the exploration). While reading about the life of Meriwether Lewis, a young student will also learn about American history and culture. Although Mr. Lewis died at a young age, he was able to make a significant contribution to the development of the United States of America. Part of the "American Lives" series. 2004, Heinemann Library, Ages 8 to 10.
