Overview
General Description of the Series:The critically acclaimed laboratory standard for more than forty years, Methods in Enzymology is one of the most highly respected publications in the field of biochemistry. Since 1955, each volume has been eagerly awaited, frequently consulted, and praised by researchers and reviewers alike. Now with more than 300 volumes (all of them still in print), the series contains much material still relevant today--truly an essential publication for researchers in all fields of life sciences.
Key Features
* Oxidative Damage to Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic Acids
* Antioxidant Assays in Cells, Body Fluids, and Tissues
* Oxidant and Redox Sensitive Steps in Signal Transduction and Gene Expression
* Noninvasive Methods
The book contains predominantly black-and-white illustrations, with some color illustrations.
Editorials
From The Critics
Reviewer: Gene A. Homandberg, PhD(Rush Medical College of Rush University)Description: This Methods in Enzymology volume is a much needed compendium on methods applicable to assays of nitrogen monoxide (NO), especially assays of biological activities, and studies of NO donors, and oxidant and antioxidant activities of NO. Also included are study methods for regulation of NO and studies of NO at the molecular, cellular, tissue, and organ levels and in expression systems and clinical situations.
Purpose: This volume is meant to update methods of use in this rapidly advancing field, beyond the reviews in the earlier volumes 268, 269, and 301. Since NO encompasses so many research directions, this volume should serve to update researchers in many areas.
Audience: The information will be very useful for biochemists or clinicians, students or experienced investigators. Since this area is rapidly growing, biochemists in general should find the content of potential value.
Features: This volume has the attractive Methods in Enzymology format with sufficient illustrations, references, and subject index as well as very clear and concise writing.
Assessment: This volume is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in studies of NO. Since applications in so many different areas are covered and since the roles of NO are so varied and its presence ubiquitous, this volume should be of general usefulness for investigators in many different fields. A general introduction to the biological activities of NO would have been useful for novices, since this area is newer than the general oxidant/antioxidant area.
From the Publisher
PRAISE FOR THE SERIES"The 'Methods in Enzymology' series represents the gold-standard."
--NEUROSCIENCE
"Incomparably useful."
--ANALYTICAL BIOCHEMISTRY
"It is a true 'methods' series, including almost every detail from basic theory to sources of equipment and reagents, with timely documentation provided on each page."
--BIO/TECHNOLOGY
"The series has been following the growing, changing and creation of new areas of science. It should be on the shelves of all libraries in the world as a whole collection."
--CHEMISTRY IN INDUSTRY
"The appearance of another volume in that excellent series, Methods in Enzymology, is always a cause for appreciation for those who wish to successfully carry out a particular technique or prepare an enzyme or metabolic intermediate without the tiresome prospect of searching through unfamiliar literature and perhaps selecting an unproven method which is not easily reproduced."
--AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MICROBIOLOGY NEWS
"If we had some way to find the work most often consulted in the laboratory, it could well be Colowick and Kaplan's multivolume series Methods in Enzymology...a great work."
--ENZYMOLOGIA
"A series that has established itself as a definitive reference for biochemists."
--JOURNAL OF CHROMATOGRAPHY
