Gr 4-8-These well-done series entries cover the history of the home countries, the immigration of their peoples to the U.S., and their adjustment to life here and attempts to overcome prejudice. The engaging, clearly written texts have numerous boxes with additional historical material, personal stories, accounts of civil rights struggles, a recipe, and carefully footnoted quotations. The attractive, open format features many well-chosen, black-and-white and full-color photographs and illustrations. Famous individuals (usually pictured), a time line, suggestions for things to see and do, and an age-appropriate list for further reading form part of the extensive appendixes. Vietnamese has a few minor errors, misspelling Eglin AF Base and, later, Little Saigon on a keyless map of Vietnamese immigrants to the U.S. (Presumably the states named have the highest number of immigrants.) Lerner's nicely designed Web site further enhances these useful titles.-Diane S. Marton, Arlington County Library, VA Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.Book Details
