Synopsis
An introduction to the geography, history, culture, and people of Mexico.
Children's Literature
This title is a good introduction to the geography, history, culture and people of Mexico. The simple text consists of four to five sentences per page, and is accompanied by large color photographs that clearly illustrate the topic. Photos include the Pyramid of the Sun built by the Aztecs, the volcano Paricutin erupting, and the Mayan ruins at Tulum. An overview of ancient history from the Mayans, the Aztecs, and the years of Spanish rule are simply and clearly explained. The sections about modern Mexico include food, fiestas and sports. A timeline, map of the country and a glossary are included. This series would make a valuable addition to a classroom library. Part of the "First Reports" series. 2001, Compass Point Books, $21.26. Ages 8 to 12. Reviewer: Cheryl Peterson
