Overview

Her name is Sherise Parlay. She's just dried out after a three-month bender, and she's decided that it's going to be her last. At thirty-six (looking thirty), she figures she's still got time to cash in on the promise of the good clean life that Miami can offer, still got time to get herself "out of the dark bars and into the daylight". The problem for Sherri is that daylight turns out to be only another guidelight on her downward spiral.

A dark, unrelenting debut novel that propels fiction noir into the '90s. At thirty-six-looking-thirty, Sherry Parley determines to "get into the daylight, " after drying out from a three-month bender. But it's not daylight she finds when she hooks up with Payne, who's quickly learning how to tap Sherry's most violent and cold-blooded impulses.

Editorials

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly

Hendricks's debut novel is a noir-ish tale of an aging former stripper whose attempt to go clean leads her into a murderously perverse affair. (June)

Dennis Lehane

"The authentic heir to James M. Cain, Vicki Hendricks is the high priestess of neo-noir. A fierce and fearless talent."

George Pelecanos

"Shocking and supercharged, both reverent and original, this is the novel that amped up a new generation of noir writers."

James Ellroy

"Miami Purity cooks white hot . . . . This book is an instant redneck idiot savant classic: so gruesome and funny and deadpan outlandish that you wind up baying at the moon like a Florida coondog."
