MIgrants never operate in a vacuum and this study shows how they attempt to cope withg new restraints and opportunities. The enquiry has important implications for policy makers especially in dealing with refugees and land settlement. It underlines the important role of the agricultural entrepeneur in economic development and the wide range of national policies for the settlement of rural migrants.

About the Author, J. Mollett

J.A. Mollett is Senior Research Associate at Queen Elizabeth House, University of Oxford. He previously held academic positions at the Universities of Reading, Manitoba, California, Hawaii, and Oxford. He served in the Policy Analysis Division of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, and is the author of many reports and papers on international agricultural planning. HIs latest publications include Planning for AGricultural Development.
