Synopsis
When Milly and Molly's friend Oink is taken by a bad stranger they think they will never see him again. (Beware of Strangers)
Cindy L. Carolan - Children's Literature
"We may look different but we feel the same." This statement is found on the title page of this book that was written to promote the acceptance of diversity and stranger danger. Milly and Molly are friends who look very different from each other. Their mutual friend, Farmer Hegarty (who doesn't look like either of the girls) asks them to look after a little piglet with a big "oink" who is not thriving. He is the runt of the litter and has been placed in a pen of his own, as his siblings would not allow him to eat. Oink (the piglet) is very friendly and loves to chat with people over the fence, but one day he is taken by bad people. Milly and Molly call and call for him but to no avail. They keep his water fresh in the hopes that one day he will return, which, to the delight of everyone, he does! A cute story that emphasizes in a subtle way how friends come in all shapes and sizes and that our relationships, all of them, are very important. The childlike illustrations are wonderful and communicate even more than the text at times. Part of the "Milly, Molly" series of books. Recommended 2003, Milly Molly Books, Ages 4 to 8.
