Children's Literature - Allison Fetters

Reading this book, we follow Melody Ann Croft (a.k.a. Mac) in the competitive, sometimes cruel, world of modeling. Mac learns quickly that the glamorous life does not come without hard work, low blows and constant sacrifice. As the stress of a long-distance commute begins to take its toll, Mac decides to move to the city in order to ease that burden; however, she soon discovers city-living comes with its own set of challenges. Then again, so does a life spent more on the road than at home. This book conveys a realistic view of what it takes to succeed in the modeling world. Mac is refreshingly portrayed as a determined character with a good head on her shoulders. She demonstrates great maturity at twenty years of age and sets a good example for others. Through her actions, she displays loyalty, determination, motivation, and optimism. In this short glimpse of her life, we see love gained and lost, friendships formed, and dreams realized. This is a page-turner that is both enjoyable and inspiring. Reviewer: Allison Fetters
