Using the philosophy that learning to write is a craft best learned through the use of models, the author has compiled lists of educational and trade books for use in teaching writing. Designed for use with younger writers, the book uses eight steps in the writing process which are introduced in the beginning of Chapter 1. Target skills such as writing description, organization, strong verbs, dialogue, exclamation and so on are selected and the class uses the listed models rich in that particular skill as guides in developing their own skills. The models used are popular, readily-available sources for building the target skills. An alphabetized list of the literature cited as well as a cross index of target skills is provided for easy reference.
