Children's Literature

Montana has always been a true frontier state from its gold and silver mines to the land of the big wide-open spaces and sky. Learn about the history of its many trading posts, the citizens and their backgrounds, the economy and commerce which is currently one that relies on tourism, the land (how the state is divided by the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains), the government, biographies of notable people, and the culture. Montana is also known for its dinosaur fossils. The text is well-written, concise, easy to follow, and keeps the reader's attention. Full color photos, illustrations, black and white photos complement the text. Also included is a timeline that compares state events with those that occurred elsewhere in the United States. Additional features include a table of contents, maps, charts, a list of books for further reading, Internet sites, and an index. The whole layout of the book helps to create the sense that the reader is visiting the state without ever leaving his/her chair as he/she is reading the eye-catching and exciting history. It is a great addition for the classroom and school library and will assist in report writing, class projects, and/or study units. It is also an excellent choice for individuals, those who homeschool their children, and future geographers. "World Almanac Library of the States." 2003, World Almanac Library, Ages 10 up.
