Gr 5-8-Rice recounts the story of Mother Teresa's life from her birth in Albania to devout Catholic parents and her calling as a child into religious life, to her helping some of the world's poorest people. The book emphasizes the nun's untiring commitment to the sick and hungry, thus providing insight into the determined, yet quiet, personality that founded what came to be known as the Missionaries of Charity. Readers are reminded that winning the Nobel Peace Prize and meeting dignitaries provided her with resources to further her work and not her personal renown. The straightforward, readable text will serve researchers well. Full-color photographs provide a realistic picture of the nun's home and mission. Although comparable in information to Patricia Giff's Mother Teresa (Turtleback, 1987) and Charlotte Gray's Mother Teresa (Gareth Stevens, 1988), this title also includes a brief statement about her death. Despite a lack of source notes, this is a credible addition to biography collections.-Cheryl Cufari, Glencliff Elementary School, Niskayuna, NYBook Details
