School Library Journal
Gr 4-5-- Wooden bits of text and copiously captioned full-color photographs fill these thin, cluttered volumes. The books do provide a fair amount of information on gorilla behavior, family life, physical characteristics, and problems with hunters and poachers. Each one concludes with a few paragraphs of facts and addresses of organizations. Some of the photographs are appealing, but others are poorly cropped or framed, or just too small to be interesting. There is some overlap among them, and all of the material might have been easily shaped into one useful volume. Miriam Schlein's Jane Goodall's Animal World: Gorillas (Macmillan, 1990) is a better choice, and libraries owning any of the now out-of-print titles on the subject could hold on to them and wait for better material to come along.-- Margaret Bush, Simmons College, BostonBook Details
