Children's Literature -
A little girl is playing with her favorite toy, a Noah's ark. The ark has a Mr. and Mrs. Noah, and a little girl and a little boy. There are cats, dogs, spotted horses, pink pigs and monkeys that never frown. Other animal pairs jumble along into the ark. The words are simplistic, but the true story comes through the pictures. Each pair of animals is made of random toys that the little girl has lovingly grouped together to complete her Noah's ark—one hippo is a piggy bank and one hippo is a small stuffed animal wearing a teeny hat. Many of the other animals are equally mismatched. There is no mention of the Old Testament story or other religious overtones. The book is merely a story about a girl playing with her toys. The writing is appropriate for emergent readers at a beginning first grade level, or as a read aloud for preschool and younger. Reviewer: Natalie GurrBook Details
