Editorials

From the Publisher

"The third entry in this series of teaching aids suggests 400 activities elementary school students can perform in conjunction with 45 trade books on self-perception, family, community, history, geography, animals, and international cultures. The final two sections provide theater scripts for children to read aloud and reproducible handouts."

Reference & Research Book News

"A participatory approach to elementary social studies teaching. Quality children's literature is the focal point for the hands-on, minds-on experiences that are presented in the 62 units linked to national standards. Practical and up-to-date suggestions for collaborations with librarians and integration across the curriculum are included."

-

Curriculum Connections

"Fredericks doles out a bevy of engaging new literature-based social studies lessons. Up-to-date book recommendations are varied in both genre and topic and each is accompanied by modifiable lesson plans. The readers' theatre scripts are unremarkable but an excellent section on literature response makes up for them."
