Preschool to second-grade storytimes take on a modern twist when CD-ROMs and Internet sites are added to the traditional compilation of fingerplays and tales. The 40 thematic programs presented here are enhanced with technological components selected to foster good listening, encourage creativity, and promote interactive skills. In addition to these technological resources, books, fingerplays, songs, and videos are recommended as well as related craft and cooking activities. Themes include the alphabet, animals, Native Americans, pirates, the tooth fairy, and trains. The introduction includes a useful checklist/timetable for organizing a storyhour as well as a Web site evaluation form. Though many other resources are available, Davis's book is one of the first to bring together such a wide variety of media for early childhood learning. An excellent choice to ease novice technophiles into expanding the parameters of traditional programs.-Ilene Abramson, Los Angeles Public Library Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
