Cancer and the mechanisms of its development are receiving increasing research interest. New genes are being isolated almost daily, Fundamental to those studies is the ability to detect mutations. Mutation detection is time consuming and expensive and thus should be undertaken with a thorough knowledge of the alternative methods.
