School Library Journal

K-Gr 3 A simple introduction to 18 major mitzvos, or good deeds. Each double-page spread presents and explains a single concept in clear, simple text; black-and-white photos further expand and elucidate. Mitzvos include both religious obligations and social responsibilities; e.g., ritual hand washing, prayers before meals, respect for the elderly, welcoming guests and charitable contributions. Extensive use of transliterated Hebrew words without English translation and the presumption of a familiarity with basic Orthodox precepts limit potential readership to Hebrew school students. Susan Kaminow, Arlington County Public Library, Va.
