Overview

My Very First Prayers covers the whole of a child’s world—in a child’s words—with prayers that are fresh and full of living faith. This highly appealing collection of 120 prayers is helpfully divided into sections that reflect a child’s experience—”Morning,” “Me,” “People I Love,” “Things I Do,” “Make Everything Better,” “Great Big World,” “Quiet Times,” and more.The prayers are short in length, but not in their fervor or feeling:“Dear God,
Some people forget my name.
Some people muddle my name.
Please will you remember my name
And remember me.”“Dear God,
May all the children of the world
have all they need
to grow up well
and to grow up happy.”“Jesus, friend of little children,
Be a friend to me;
Take my hand and ever keep me
Close to thee.”“Whenever there’s something
to share,
Help me to learn to be fair.”Lively, energetic illustrations bring the spirit of children to each page—their rich color, their intensity of feeling, their stillness, their wonder.This book of prayers puts the holy and the earthly within reach of each other—with life-giving exuberance.

An illustrated collection of 120 prayers for toddlers, divided into such categories as "People I Love" and "Quiet Times."

School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2-This charming book features a wonderful assortment of prayers. The inspirational verses are divided into chapters that focus on the many different aspects of a child's life, from the seasons, the animals, and the world around them to the people they love, their feelings, and holidays and celebrations. While some of the devotions are attributed to particular authors, others are original prayers written in short, easily remembered verses, such as, "The room is almost tidy/The toys are put away./I take a quiet moment/To thank God for the day." The pages are illustrated with cheerful cut-paper pictures of smiling, round-faced children, which reflect and enhance the gentle tone of this lovely collection. Parents and children will enjoy reading and learning these prayers together. A fine follow-up to Muff Singer's Baby's First Prayers (Reader's Digest, 1998).-Linda L. Walkins, Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Brighton, MA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
