Her previous books include Homestead, a memoir, and the novels A Gathering of Finches, Love to Water My Soul, Mystic Sweet Communion, and A Sweetness to the Soul, which won the Western Heritage Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. Kirkpatrick and her husband raise cattle and grapes on their ranch at the 27-mile marker of Oregon's John Day River.
