Library Journal
These two books present different approaches on how to decorate the walls of a home. Professional specialty-finishes painter Wilson presents a comprehensive look at nine decorative paint techniques, including antiquing, crackling, stenciling, and leafing. The basic supplies and clearly written instructions for each method are illustrated with color photographs and are followed by examples of how the techniques have been applied to walls, cabinets, furniture, and decorative accessories, many with before and after photographs sure to give even amateurs inspiration to try the techniques. Each chapter concludes with samples of color combinations to show variations of a look. Bold-Pryor and Lacis, co-owners of the paint and faux finishing firm Deux Amies, cover painting, wallpapering, and displaying art and collections with color photographs depicting how they have used the techniques in their commissions. Although not designed as a how-to, this book offers written instructions for some projects.
