Gr 3-5–Chapter spreads in these titles consist of a few paragraphs of narrative that are complemented by charts, sidebars, diagrams, and attractive photographs in both color and black and white. The organization is odd. After the initial chapters that include basic information and a map outlining locations where championships are played, the authors return to historical highlights and four well-known male players in a chapter entitled “Legends and Current Stars.” Women athletes are discussed in a separate chapter. A concluding spread provides 10 text-comprehension questions and a section of “Books to Read” that lacks any specific titles.
