Originally published in 1916, with a second edition in 1918. Like others in this series, this is a reprint of a key work of professional naval thought, with some new introductory material. Some of the impressions that Fiske acquired in his long career in the navy are now outdated in the era of nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. What is amazing is the amount of opinion and theory that is still appropriate today. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
