Library Journal

Johnston, director of the Institute for Creative Development in Seattle and author of The Creative Imperative (Celestial Arts, 1986), expounds his premise that whole new ways of understanding are needed to deal with the profound cultural challenges of our times. His weighty tone means readers must slowly wade through pages of cultural philosophies. Johnston is a man of compromise, willing to blend old fallacies (which bind society into different camps) into compromises with which to approach the future. His study holds little popular appeal, and the intended audience of men and women in everyday professions will most likely lose interest quickly. Futurists and academicians may take up the challenge. For academic libraries housing futurist studies.-- Linda Beck, Indian Valley P.L., Telford, Pa.
