Growing up near a city with three major league teams, editor Eric Kroll lived and breathed the Giants at the Polo Grounds, the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, and the Brooklyn Bums (Dodgers) at Ebbets Field. "What did Willie Mays do last night? How about the Duke? And the golden boy, Mickey Mantle? Was that a thunderous strikeout last night or what?" All this flavor and juice were captured on film by the premier sports photographer of this generation, Neil Leifer.

About the Author, Eric Kroll

Eric Kroll has worked as a photojournalist for the New York Times, Der Spiegel, and Vogue, but is best known for his fetish photography appearing in magazines such as Leg Show and High Heeled Women, and for his Taschen monographs Fetish Girls and Beauty Parade. As a Taschen editor, he most recently edited The Wonderful World of Bill Ward.

By 1960, at age 17, native New Yorker Neil Leifer had his first pictures published in Sports Illustrated and he was on his way. He went on to create over 200 covers for SI, Time and People; and photographed 15 Olympic Games, 4 World Cups, 17 Kentucky Derbies, 15 Masters Tournaments, countless World Series, the first 12 Super Bowls, and every major heavyweight championship title boxing match since Floyd Patterson fought Ingemar Johansson in 1960, as well as Muhammad Ali's entire career. Today he produces and directs films, in addition to the occasional photo shoot.
