Description:The is a succinct yet detailed synopsis of the embryology of CHD and the neonatal clinical presentation. It also reviews the treatment of neonatal CHD. The review of neonatal cardiomyopathy is superb.
Purpose:The purpose is to concisely review and update many aspects of neonatal heart disease. The authors are excellent and meet their objectives.
Audience:The is an outstanding reference for trainees and practitioners in neonatology, perinatology, and pediatric cardiology. The authors are recognized experts in the field.
Features:Four themes are covered in this text: basics of cardiac embryology; clinical assessment; principles of treatment; and nursing aspects. Clinical aspects are presented from a symptom-based approach. The chapters on cardiac embryology, cardiomyopathy, and nursing aspects are well written. The only shortcoming is that the reference list for each topic could be more extensive.
Assessment:This is an superb, concise, and well written review of various aspects of neonatal cardiology. It is a needed reference in the library for all healthcare professionals who care for neonates.
