Description: The progress in research on neural stem cells is promoting the development of new ideas in surgical applications for management of neurodegenerative diseases. This book addresses current research protocols for neural stem cells and future applications for each of the protocols described.
Purpose: The purpose is to address research protocols and possible future applications of neural stem cells in clinical practice. The author has met the objectives.
Audience: The audience is primarily neuroscientists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons who, looking for novel modalities of treatment of their patients, may envision in this research an opportunity for better disease management. The authors are certainly credible authorities in the field.
Features: The 64 authors contribute 16 chapters in this book. Starting from the basic aspects of cell culturing, this book emphasizes the different available research protocols that are currently being used for possible management of neurological degenerative diseases. In addition, molecular mechanisms of interaction are always explained whenever necessary. There is not much discussion of the possible surgical applications of neural stem cells, as most authors are from the clinical or basic science arena.
Assessment: This book is a perfect purchase for neurologists and neuroscientists. Neurosurgeons with a basic science interest would also find this a useful acquisition.
