This book, dedicated to brain injured individuals with whom the author worked, is an outline of the unique role of neuropsychotherapy in recovery from brain injury. Neuropsychotherapy is defined as the use of neuropsychological knowledge in psychotherapy with persons who have brain injury. Significant overlap of treatment with rehabilitation, psychotherapy, and cognitive rehabilitation exists. The author describes assessment, treatment, and interventions in detail. The book is designed to teach professionals how to offer mental health services to individuals with brain injury and to make society more understanding of these individuals and their needs. Readers are generally going to be treatment providers who are in the field or entering the field of rehabilitation psychology or rehabilitation medicine. Certainly the book would be valuable to neurologists and psychologists working with older adults as well. Illustrations of the most important concepts are provided to highlight the text. This helps readers obtain a gestalt of the ideas presented. The author presents inclusive tables of symptoms, assessment areas, etc., which also help novice clinicians be inclusive in their evaluations and treatment. Throughout the book, the author presents case examples -- these are especially useful and make reading the book much less of an effort for the clinician. This is a comprehensive overview of the range of treatment options for individuals with brain injury. Treatment techniques are broad and the psychological reactions to illness are enlightening to the beginner. Organic emotional changes are well described. This is an excellent sourcebook for the clinician. It is also a goodtextbook for the psychology student beginning a rehabilitation practicum or for the neuropsychologist or neurologist who is interested in treatment issues. I highly recommend this book.
