Synopsis

The six-volume set will consider the purpose, role, function, and future of the copyright system in studies by an international and multidisciplinary network of scholars bringing perspectives from law, politics, economics, cultural studies, and social theory. The nine studies comprising volume 1 explore the theoretical framework of copyright law, underling issues such as the moral justifications for copyright and the appropriateness of copyright in a globalized world, and the convergence and divergence of intellectual property rights in the context of globalization. Among specific topics are copyright and the non-western world, American legal and cultural hegemony, and legal convergence versus perception divergence regarding the regulation of peer-to-peer file-sharing networks.
