Synopsis
Introduces what a news room is like, who the people are that work to produce a newspaper, and how a paper is put together, printed, and delivered.
Joyce Rice - Children's Literature
It takes almost 500 tons of newsprint to print one issue of The New York Times. This world-renowned newspaper, as famous as it is, has a lot in common with the neighborhood newspaper that brings you community news once a week. Each newspaper starts with a story and a writer. The newspapers are printed and distributed in the same manner, although technology may make some of the processes more automated than manual. The beautiful photographs of a typical newsroom, the machines that are used to print the paper, and reporters and photographers on the job make this truly a "field trip." Throughout the book, glossary is introduced in bold print. Classroom activities are included, as well as a brief glossary, index, and Web links. This is one of several titles in the "Field Trip" series. The other titles include An Airport and A Dairy Farm. Recommended for reluctant middle school readers. 2004, Smart Apple Media, Ages 8 to 10.
