Synopsis

Nigerian Pidgin is the first comprehensive grammar of what has become one of the most widely spoken languages of Africa and the most widely spoken pidgin language in the world. The work consists of a detailed descriptive and analytic treatment of the syntax, morphology and phonology of Nigerian Pidgin, as well as preliminary studies of the lexicon and semantics of the language. The data and analysis presented in this book are based on samples of spontaneous speech collected in markets, workplaces, private homes and other sites throughout South Eastern Nigeria. This volume is further complemented by a full bibliography.
