The only introduction to Gothic sculpture from northern Europe available in English. It contains a detailed catalogue of 56 pieces in the Museum which range in date from 1200 to 1450. Every piece is illustrated, often from the back as well as the front. The introduction places the work in context and has a section on the types and settings of Gothic sculpture, the materials and working methods of the sculptors, later copies, forgeries and restorations.
