Cameron, professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Toronto, here collects 12 of his articles that have appeared in the New York Review of Books , Commonweal and academic journals during the past 25 years. Outstanding is the essay, ``Sex in the Head,'' written in 1976, which the author reexamines with insight, expressing qualms about tone which, he notes, might be modified in the hindsight of two decades of change in social mores. The title piece, a prime example of Cameron's incisive style in political and social commentary, retains the strength of its first appearance in 1963. Literary, philosophical, poetic themes are explored in papers springing from the academic milieu. The novels of Henry James and Dickens, the thinking of John Henry Newman, are also explicated with deft insight. (Oct.)
