Counting is a gussing game in this lift-the-flap book of insects and animals. How many eyes do I have? asks a spotted green toad on a left-hand page. Lift the number 2 on the facing page and you'll find a close-up of a toad's face with the words "Yes! I have 2 big eyes. I can see my food from a long way away." Children will like learning the animals facts almost as much as they like lifting all the flaps.

PreS-Gr 1-In these two concept books, jaunty gouache illustrations of cartoon animals and bright geometric flaps invite children to answer questions. In Numbers, a toad asks, "How many eyes do I have?" while other queries come from a bee, chimpanzee, spider, pig, mouse, and ladybug. Facing each question are three colorful flaps with a possible answer written on the outside of each. Under the flaps, even incorrect answers offer information related to the subject. All choices include both the Arabic and written numerals. In Opposites, different critters describe themselves in one word (big, slow, fat, rough, black, loud, and soft) and ask youngsters to select the opposite term written on one of the facing flaps. The final spread depicts some of the animals seen in the book offering children a chance to match opposites.
