Overview

Moving out to sea from the shoreline, the book takes the reader to the open ocean, the coral reef, the seabed, and, finally, for a look into the future. Special sections are devoted to such subjects as dolphins and coral reef photography. In both text and photos, the authors show the reader the threats to and problems facing the oceans as a result of human behavior. All is not gloom and doom, however. Restoration projects, water treatment successes, and other protection activities are shown as well. Larger and more comprehensive than Erich Hoyt's Creatures of the Deep (LJ 12/01), Ocean Life is highly recommended for all general collections. Mary J.
