Synopsis
Kids are deeply concerned about the state of their world. These titles show how the environment was damaged and how it can be repaired.
Children's Literature
This title from the "Jump! Ecology" series is a generally informative package focusing half on the aquatic life and resources of the oceans and half on the damage humans wreak on the environment. The well-captioned color photographs make this useful for the researcher or browser but the workaday line-and-color wash illustrations don't compel interest. A weak story set in Fiji about a fierce shark tricked into guarding fishermen reads like a blandly told folktale, but no source is given. A glossary for words highlighted in the text, an index and a thirteen-question true or false quiz are included. Useful but not an essential purchase. 2000, Two-Can, $9.95 and $6.95. Ages 8 to 12.
