Having already told the story of his personal life in Confessions of an Actor , Olivier now reminisces about the business of acting for actors by analyzing his search to create a reality in each role that he played. His major Shakespearean characterizations are emphasized, with a separate chapter devoted to each, but many other roles and productions, both on stage and on film, are also described. Olivier's acute sense of timing is as evident in these graceful, often amusing reflections on the people he's known, and the parts he's played, as it is in his acting. Just as interesting for theater-lovers as for aspiring actors, this is the summing-up of a distinguished career. Marcia L. Perry, Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield, Mass.School Library Journal
