This book is an account of high points in the long career of this eighty-six-year-old international sociologist: his youth in Milwaukee; forty-three years as a professor at universities in Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida, and Maryland; lectures and consultations in the United States and Europe; solo violinist, chamber-music performer, and symphony-orchestra member; and twenty-seven books and hundreds of journal articles on topics such as leisure, the arts, and gerontology.
