Editorials

Whalen and Schroeter run a performance tuning company, and here explain how to configure the Oracle database software package to perform optimally. Tuning must be done holistically, they argue, and optimal performance cannot be achieved by focusing on one part of the system. So they explore all areas from SQL statements to the operation of the disk drive. There is no bibliography. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
