Overview
Oracle Troubleshooting is a technical support reference written by two authors with a combined 12 years experience at Oracle Worldwide Customer Support. This book accomplishes two important goals: first,it provides solutions to commonly asked Oracle user questions. It enables users to diagnose and solve their own Oracle problems, thereby avoiding a potentially costly and time-consuming technical support call. Second, this book provides help during times when readers must call WWCS. It helps them test and identify critical information that can make the call quicker and less painful. This is a proactive preventive maintenance and problem resolution guide incorporating the worldwide experience of Oracle``s customer support team. The Publication is based on customer feedback and extensive problem analysis which allows the authors to focus on proactive problem resolutions within the domain of all DBAs. This is not a technical publication of patches or problem fixes for specific applications. Rather, the book discusses and explains the vital need for all DBAs to perform preventive maintenance tasks that include pre and post-installation, table scripts, backup and configuration on Windows 3.1, Windows 95/NT, Solaris, UNIX and OpenVMS platforms. This text supplements the methods and techniques in the product software manuals with additional tips and techniques for creating and maintaining an Oracle database, space management, performance tuning and database recovery schema. It shows how to solve connectivity problems with traces and logs and resolves common pre-compiler and Developer/2000 problems as well. The accompanying CD-ROM includes technical bulletins, scripts and sample configuration files. Please note, this troubleshooting guide is for all releases of Oracle 7.
