Overview

These fun-to-fold origami projects are different from any others because they celebrate Americana. The history, pop culture, and icons of the United States are evoked in fabulously detailed figures. Learning the techniques is easy -- all the folds are illustrated and described. Be sure the paper you use is thin, keeps a crease well, and folds flat. Turn the scraps into whatever accessories you think will add life to the projects. The buffalo may not be as plentiful on the plains as it once was many years ago, but you can make an entire herd to display in your home today. It's not hard to imagine the power of this extraordinary animal when looking at the broad shoulders and back of your origami version. The gunslinger is another American West figure. Watch out for this desperado: he's about to draw his guns from their holsters. Once you've finished folding the eagle, just think about how majestic this great bird looks soaring over the land.

It would be downright unpatriotic not to include the Father of the country, George Washington. Depict him riding his horse. Abraham Lincoln is another presidential project. He's easily recognizable by his stovepipe hat. Revisit colonial times by making a young pioneer girl. She's taking a break from her chores, whiling away a few minutes sitting on a fence. It's as if there's a gentle breeze blowing because her skirt is billowing slightly away from her legs. The minuteman brings the Revolution to mind. He's armed with a rifle in his hands, ready for action. Soon you'll leave a paper trail of figures...in the USA, or wherever you are in the world!

Synopsis

New in Paper Duy Nguyen, who has created origami fantasy worlds, animals, and holiday projects, now brings American icons to three-dimensional life. And all it takes to create these patriotic items is just a few basic folds--all explained in detailed illustrations right up front--and some paper. Craft a magnificent American eagle, a roaming buffalo; a Farm Girl sitting on a fence; and a swaggering gunslinger wearing a Western hat. Or make historical figures, such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Betsy Ross holding the Stars and Stripes. It's creative and fun.
