Overview

From the ancient art of tattoo to the geography-defying structures of New Zealand architect Andrew Patterson and the extraordinary coral churches of the Cook Islands, Pacific Island is a fascinating photographic journey around the many islands of Polynesia to explore the architecture, interiors, furniture, textiles and decoration that express the true Pacific style.

Library Journal

These "visual sourcebooks" will provide architects and designers with a look at the decorative styles of the Pacific Islands and contemporary London. With similar layouts that show the interiors, colors, and individual ingredients that comprise each look, both show contemporary interpretations of styles that in London Minimum traces back to Georgian England and in Pacific Island is seen as a resurfacing of native Polynesian themes. Those familiar with Suzanne Slesin's style books (e.g., Spanish Style, Crown, 1990) will be disappointed in how few photographs Ypma uses to express each style. However, these books will be extremely useful for design inspiration in large and professional interior design collections.
