Library Journal

North Light Books has drawn on the work of nine of the artists whose books it has successfully published in this quick and easy reference for depicting trees, shrubs, leaves, and grasses. Arranged by subject matter-evergreens, deciduous trees, distant foliage, etc.-each chapter includes short demonstrations using the three major media of acrylics, oils, and watercolors. The demos are beautifully done, but they show such things as a holly tree with berries or a northern red oak leaf in isolation. As useful as this is, the book could well be twinned with one that places these elements in context, such as Richard Taylor's Pocket Watercolor Series: Forests and Woodlands.
