From 1939 to 1945, the armored divisions of the German Army (Heer) were a formidable war machine. Over thirty armored divisions came into being. With quality officering, high performance equipment utilized on revolutionary lines, they played a decisive role in the string of victories in Poland, France, the Balkans, north Africa and the Soviet Union. After being forced onto the defensive from the summer of 1943, they then helped to slow down the inexorable advance of the Allied troops into the heart of the Reich. Throughout the war, despite all their trials, they inspired admiration and envy, giving rise to a veritable myth that lives on to this day...

De 1939 a 1945, les divisions blindees de l'armee de terre allemande (Heer) ont constitue un formidable instrument de guerre. Plus de trente divisions blindees ont ainsi vu le jour. Dotees d'un encadrement de qualite, de materiels performants et utilisees selon des principes revolutionnaires, elles ont joue un role determinant dans la serie de victoires remportees en Pologne, en France, dans les Balkans, en Afrique du Nord et en Union Sovietique. Contraintes a la defensive a partir de l'ete 1943, elles ont ensuite contribue a ralentir l'avance inexorable des troupes alliees vers le coeur du Reich.
