Overview
From 1939 to 1945, the armored divisions of the German Army (Heer) were a formidable war machine. Over thirty armored divisions came into being. With quality officering, high performance equipment utilized on revolutionary lines, they played a decisive role in the string of victories in Poland, France, the Balkans, north Africa and the Soviet Union. After being forced onto the defensive from the summer of 1943, they then helped to slow down the inexorable advance of the Allied troops into the heart of the Reich. Throughout the war, despite all their trials, they inspired admiration and envy, giving rise to a veritable myth that lives on to this day...
Devoted to the panzer troops (Panzertruppen) and more especially to the panzer divisions (Panzerdivisionen), this book also contains biographies and portraits of the 266 general officers or higher who commanded tank armies, army corps and divisions during the period 1935-1945. This is an unfamiliar and yet crucially important aspect, presented here for the first time in French and English.
