Children's Literature - Marion Rubin

This small, large-print, informative book explains how paper is made and its uses. Each page has large, colorful pictures to illustrate the concepts. Most pages have one or two words introduced in bold print that are repeated in a glossary at the end of the book. There are many suggestions for discussions and reader activitiesβ€”such as finding paper on a roll, determining what kind of paper soaks up water best and why, and looking for different kinds of cardboard. Paper Products is a one of Andrew Langley's titles in the "Everyday Materials" series, and the vocabulary makes it one of the easier books in the series. As in all of his books, it includes a table of contents, an index, a quiz, additional books to read about paper and websites to visit. In addition, there is a "paper topic web" page that encourages readers to find related topics in geography, art, history, science and English. These suggestions and resources allow the instructor to use this title in many ways and to easily adapt the book to the needs of his or her class. Reviewer: Marion Rubin
