Gr 3-6-A craft book with flashy visual appeal that uses a combination of clear, full-color photographs and realistic drawings to illustrate the processes and finished products of papier-mch. Wowed by the spectacular photos, children may well be inspired to attempt to make a mask, puppet, bowl, box, or mobile. However, they will probably not be able to get the professional-looking results pictured. The book begins with a list of materials and basic techniques, complete with warnings about sharp knives and potentially toxic ingredients. Covering many techniques and difficulty levels, the projects are explained in clearly numbered drawings. The written instructions are easy to read, but the information provided is sometimes insufficient for novices. A dazzling photo of the finished item dominates each double spread, and a miniature drawing of it appears in the table of contents. Although most of the projects result in specific objects, creativity is encouraged and variations are suggested.
