School Library Journal

Gr 10 UpA revised edition of a 1991 title (Greenhaven). Is belief in paranormal phenomena unscientific? Are television shows about the paranormal anti-scientific? These questions and more pertaining to the mysteries of ESP, near-death experiences, past-life memories, UFOs, and alien abductions are examined in brief essays that reflect a variety of viewpoints. Excerpts from books and periodicals have been written by experts on their topics. Each chapter begins with an overview and ends with a periodical bibliography. As is typical of this series, a finely detailed index and excellent bibliography enhance the title's research potential. The list of names and addresses of organizations concerned with the topics discussed is new to this edition. Some recently disclosed investigative reports and government documents are also included. There are fewer cartoons, which gives this text a more serious look. The selection of opinions is balanced and the accompanying bibliographic material make this an excellent starting place for exploring these mysterious issues.Ann G.
