Description: This is a comprehensive multiauthored review of all aspects of patient safety during the perioperative experience.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an understanding of the process of anesthesia and the machinery used and to point out how to conduct a safe anesthetic. This most worthwhile of goals has been admirably achieved.
Audience: This book is aimed at all levels of persons working in the anesthetic field; it is clear enough to suit tyros and detailed enough to have new items of interest for the most hoary anesthesiologist. The authors point out that the past decade has seen enormous strides in patient safety and that the new knowledge gained should be studied by all.
Features: This in-depth text covers all types of patients and all types of anesthesia. It is well illustrated and well written.
Assessment: This book is excellent and should be required reading for all who work in the field. Reading it will increase awareness of the importance of safety and give all one needs to know to keep chipping away at the dangers that lurk out there. Increased safety must bring increased vigilance, not complacency, and this book will spur one on in the safety quest.
