School Library Journal

Gr 3-5-A topical approach to the world of art. Using good-quality, full-color reproductions and a few other artifacts as examples, the book looks at representations of workers from ancient to modern times. The chapters are brief, with the longest one covering nine pieces of art in six pages. Emphasis is placed on describing what is going on in the pictures rather than discussing composition and style. The text is often dry and at times condescending. Although this title does have its good points, there are better ones on most shelves.-Rachel Fox, Port Washington Public Library, NY
