Purpose:The purpose is to provide a thorough understanding of vascular disease, its treatment, and the requirements needed to diagnose and treat the disease processes seen in this patient population. These are timely and important objectives in light of the technological advances being made in the field of peripheral vascular disease. This publication adequately succeeds in achieving its objectives.
Audience:According to the editor, the target audience includes residents, fellows, and professionals interested in vascular disease. The editor and authors of this work are undoubtedly credible authorities in the field of vascular disease.
Features:The book is broken into 10 sections starting with anatomy and physical diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease and includes medical, interventional, and surgical treatments currently being employed to address the disease processes found in the vascular patient. Additionally, there is a separate section dedicated to the training and credentialing requirements needed to treat peripheral vascular disease. Given the rapidity with which vascular medicine is evolving, the importance of taking a multidisciplinary approach to this field is certainly realized by the contributors to this book. While the body of each chapter thoroughly and successfully addresses the latest advancements concerning the given topic, each chapter conveniently begins with a "Key Points" section that summarizes the salient features to be taken from its content. Overall, the chapters are well written with appropriate references, but they obviously lack color photos/illustrations to reiterate the subject matter.
Assessment:This book serves as an extremely useful tool for those physicians interested in the field of vascular medicine. Internists, cardiologists, interventionalists, and surgeons dedicated to the treatment and understanding of vascular medicine will find it to be an invaluable reference in their practices.
